Dr. Derrick Badaracco grew up in the greater Pittsburgh area. In high school, he suffered a series of sports-related concussions, which greatly affected his visual system. Luckily, his issues were diagnosed and treated by a local optometrist. This experience motivated Dr. Badaracco to pursue a career in optometry.
After receiving a Biology degree at Pennsylvania State University, he attended the State University of New York College of Optometry in Manhattan. Upon graduating, Dr. Badaracco practiced full scope optometry in a private setting in Northern Virginia. In 2015, Dr. Badaracco moved to the Northern Atlanta area to be closer to his family.
Dr. Badaracco is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Georgia Optometric Association, and the Scleral Lens Education Society. Dr. B enjoys practicing full scope optometry including pediatrics, ocular disease, emergency eye care and the treatment of ocular effects of concussion. He has a special interest in treating amblyopia, and binocular vision issues relating to eye focusing, teaming, and tracking skills. He has added expertise in specialty contacts including lenses for the treatment of keratoconus, post-operative LASIK ectasia, and corneal transplant patients. Dr. Badaracco also has extensive experience in techniques used to control myopia (nearsightedness) progression.
Dr. Badaracco has become known in the optometric community for his healthy and active lifestyle. In his spare time, Dr. B can often be found at the LA Fitness here in Buford, at the Chattapoochee Dog Park with his three-legged mutt, Nevus, or going on hiking adventures with his wife, Jen.
